Freight Forwarding Market Driving Efficiencies

It’s almost a year ago now since we wrote about lean processes in terms of logistics and how the freight forwarding and the Road Transport industry in particular are embracing efficiencies, both through tactical actions and strategic projects like LaMiLo. So it’s good to see that this commitment is bearing fruit, and the latest statistics from the UK confirm real progress. Data just released shows that in 2015 road transport operators achieved efficiency improvements of 2.8% in terms of HGV use, compared to the 2014 figures. This will come as welcome news to companies operating in the freight forwarding sector, as it reflects an ongoing opportunity to cut costs and improve environmental impacts.

The Freight Transport Association (FTA) in the UK is one of the main representative bodies of logistics companies in that market and it has recently documented what it considers to be the top ten issues facing the industry in the light of Brexit. The organisation has put the list together with a view to using it as a basis to influence government policy in the coming months, in order to protect the interests of the industry. As a freight forwarder, Cargocare has a keen interest in these considerations.

Brexit – Good or Bad for the Freight Forwarder?

When the idea of Brexit initially emerged, there were many freight forwarder businesses that anticipated commercial benefits from a UK exit of the EU. Some, like Cargocare, remembered the days when the movement of goods between Ireland and the UK was subject to customs clearance and at that time, there were significant revenues in handling those logistics for customers. So are we likely to see a return to those days, with incremental revenue streams for transport businesses?

Brexit – Implications for the Freight Forwarder?

When the Conservatives were elected in 2015 in the UK, they made a commitment to re-negotiate the UK’s relationship with the EU and to hold an “in-out” referendum. At the time it seemed a distant promise yet here we are with a vote due to be cast on June 23rd and with very serious implications for Ireland Inc. if Brexit became a reality.

If you haven’t heard of Uber before, you’ll certainly be familiar with the name in the future. At present the company is best known for its “Uber-convenient taxi app.” which is a strong competitor against HAILO. Now the company is moving into the logistics market and it could well bring a fundamental change to the way in which large-scale, traditional logistics companies operate.
