Founded in 1926 FIATA has now grown to represent 40,000 forwarding and logistics companies employing approximately 10 million people globally. The Association is recognised by bodies such as the World Trade Organisation as holding consultative rights to represent the industry worldwide.
The Congress is being held in Dublin for the first time since 1981 and is attracting many of the industries big players. FIATA has a number of key objectives including uniting the industry worldwide and improving the quality of services provided by its members by standardising procedures and encouraging training.
Freight Forwarder Networking
FIATA2016 will provide attendees with plenty of opportunities to mingle with other industry professionals allowing you to grow and develop your network. Delegates will also have the chance to attend Conference Sessions, will receive a Conference Pack, have the option to attend the Official Welcome Reception and Gala Dinner and also take part in a number of social activities planned throughout Dublin. The congress is expected to attract over 1000 individuals from over 30 countries represented by FIATA and will have 40 companies exhibiting. Tickets for the event were selling fast in the weeks and months leading up to it.
The main focus of the conference will be to address the major challenges facing the industry in the coming years. Issues arising from the United Nations Climate Change Conference such as sustainability will undoubtedly be a hot topic over the course of the event. Lessening the environmental impact of the industry and removing congestion away from urban areas are also likely to be on the agenda. Cargocare has worked hard to drive sustainable practices but of course we are still learning and we are particularly interested in learning about new developments for the industry in this context.
A number top international speakers are talking during the conference including Mr. Kunio Mikuriya – Secretary General, World Customs Organisation and Ms. Ruth Waring – FCILT, Managing Director, Labyrinth Logistics Consulting Ltd. Both of whom will be taking part in the opening ceremony tomorrow, 5th October, at 9am.

We’re very interested to hear what Mr Mikuriya has to say as his international experience and exposure is impressive. He has been Secretary General of the World Customs Organisation since January 2009. He is currently directing efforts to support the implementation of the Trade Facilitation Agreement constructed by the World Trade Organisation. Having spent 25 years working for Japan’s Ministry of Finance, he has a comprehensive knowledge of trade, development, customs and financial policies.
Wednesday 5th October 2016, 09:00 – 11:00 during the Opening Ceremony, Wednesday 5th October 2016, 14:15 – 16:15 during the Regional Meeting Europe.
Ms. Waring is the Managing Director of Labyrinth Logistics Consulting Ltd and considered to be a leading industry specialist in the fields of Health and Safety, Operational Improvements and Logistics Compliance. Ruth served two years as a Board Member for CILT UK and in 2008 Ruth established the Women in Logistics organisation – which has nearly 4000 members. Ruth’s company also launched a successful compliance app for freight forwarder professionals in 2014 and her take on the use of technology in logistics will certainly be worth paying attention to.
